Georgian president Mikheil Saakkashvili resigned to launch his campain snap elections, as ten of thousands of oponents gathered outside parliament for the first demonstration since emergency rule was lifted earlier in November
Demonstrations and independent television news broadcasts were banned during the period of emergency rule.
Althought those measures are now lifted, the pró-opposition television channel IMEDI, which is part-owned by news corporation magnate Ruper Murdoch, has been suspended indefinitely.
But this episode should also make the west more circumspect in the Caucasus.
At the very least, the coming election of January 5th should be closely observed.

José Sócrates
José Sócrates, 50, was born in the interior of Portugal and grew up a middle class boy in the countryside. In 2005 he became the first left-wing prime minister with absolute majority in Portugal and is the current President of the European Union. He was responsible for putting together the Lisbon Treaty, which aims to move Europe out of its political steadiness and will create a stronger and more unified EU. As the EU President, Socrates must travel constantly, mostly to Brussels, the EU capital. As Prime Minister, he needs to continue to think and act locally, with the Parliament and its ministers. Socrates is divorced with 2 sons and enjoys jogging and walking his dog with his sons during the weekend. This is a visual profile of one of the most influential politicians in Europe today.

This is a conceptual approach made with a disposable camera, in the place were 191 lives were lost during the March 11 2004 bomb attacks in Madrid, Spain.

Macaronesia
Macaronesia is a modern collective name for several groups of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean near Europe and North Africa belonging to three countries: Portugal, Spain, and Cape Verde. The name comes from the Greek for “fortunate islands”, a term used by Ancient Greek geographers for islands to the west of the Straits of Gibraltar.This selection of pictures make part of the project “(In) definições Atlânticas”, realized with the sponsorship of the IAC , Azorean institute of culture.
