Sandra Rocha

Sandra Rocha was born in Azores in 1974 and she moved to Lisbon in 1996 where she started studying and working as a photographer. There she took up a photography degree in ARCO and later she licenced in History of Art in the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where right now she is taking the Master in Contemporany Art. Professionally speaking, she was trapped inside a studio for a while but soon she realized that the place where she felt like working was the outdoors. After four years working in a daily   Portuguese newspaper denominated "A Capital", she moved to a freelancer system. In 2002, with other photographers, she co-founded kameraphoto. Nowadays, she works for editorial nacional and internacional market and develops documental personal projects in documental photography.

Sandra Rocha nasceu nos Açores em 1974 e mudou-se para Lisboa aos 22 anos onde começou a estudar e a trabalhar na área da fotografia. A sua formação começa pelo ARCO e, mais tarde, Sandra Rocha, licencia-se em História da Arte pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa, onde actualmente frequenta o mestrado em Arte Contemporânea. Em termos profissionais, começa pela fotografia de estúdio mas rapidamente se converte em fotografa de rua. Após 4 anos no diário A capital, em 2002, co-funda o colectivo kameraphoto com mais 5 fotógrafos. Hoje, trabalha em regime freelancer para o mercado editorial nacional e internacional e desenvolve projectos pessoais na área da fotografia documental.

2005

2005 Her simple but poetical work was recognized with the 5th Great Prize Visão for Photojournalism. She was the 1st Portuguese woman winner of the highest Portuguese award of photojournalism.
